The Committee for Conservation of the Environment (Eco-Club) of Becharre is a non-profit organization dedicated to improve environmental conditions of the region in North Lebanon, which is considered to be one of the most important ecologically rich location in the Middle East. The Region includes such touristic and cultural sites such as: Qornet-el-Sawda, the Cedars forest, summer and winter resort with trekking.
In ancient time, Lebanon was covered by the Cedars of God (Arz-el-Rabb) and its precious timber was used for temple construction such as the Salomon's Temple. Four km from Becharre we can discover Bqaakafra, the native village of St. Charbel which is located at an altitude of 1,700m high.
The Qadisha Valley, classified as World Patrimonial Site by UNESCO, and the Jibran Khalil Jibran Museum (Lebanese poet and painter). At 7 Km from there, we can visit the Diman, summer residence of the Maronite Patriarch and see the Saliba Doueihe paintings.
Several ecological projects concerning the conservation of nature have been achieved, namely: the protection of the parklands and reforestation in addition to waste recycling.
